Tips for Making Your Jeans Last Longer

Do you ever wonder how to make jeans last longer?

Jeans are a wardrobe essential in just about everyone's closet.  And probably get worn almost every day, well maybe not in the dead heat of summer but you get my drift.  The longevity of your denim really comes down to how well you care for them.  Here are a few quick tips on how to make your jeans last longer.

  1. WASH LESS.  Try not to wash your jeans after every wear.  I know that sounds hard but less washing will help maintain your jeans fit and cause less stress on the fabric.  Many denim brands such as Levi and KanCan recommend washing only once or twice a month.  Jeans can take on a more personal look if not washed every wear.  If you need to spot treat your jeans in between washes, try using a damp cloth or toothbrush with mild soap.
  2. WASH ON COLD.  When it comes time to wash your jeans, wash them inside out and in cold water.  The cold water will help your denim's color last longer and also keep them from shrinking.
  3. SEPERATE DARK DENIM FROM LIGHT DENIM.  Did your mom every tell you to separate dark colored clothes from light colored clothes when washing?  Well that goes the same for denim. Denim fabric can bleed during the wash, especially darker denim.  Keeping your light denim and dark denim will help with the longevity of your denim's color.  Also, it's always a good idea to wash your denim separate from any other clothes to avoid denim bleeding on to your brand new blouse.
  4. LINE DRY.  It's so easy to just throw your jeans into the dryer but this is a no no.  Air dry your jeans.  This will help preserve the fit and help to avoid shrinkage. If you must use a dryer, then try drying partially on a low temperature, then air dry to finish.

Following these quick tips will help in the longevity of your jeans.  I hope you found them helpful.  CHEERS to longer lasting denim!
